What to Look for When Shopping for an Outdoor Ping Pong Table

by

Is it time to reclaim your backyard?

Take a look out your kitchen window. Look into your back yard.

When is the last time you were in your backyard? if your answer is: to mow the lawn, then you are not getting the most out of your backyard.

You have this lovely space. You have this nice green grass. You have some trees, You have a little shade but the only reason you go in the backyard is to cut the grass? This is no way to treat your backyard. It is still part of your home, after all. You could even say it is part of the family.

Is this the summer you finally recover your backyard? Will this summer be the one that you finally decide to do something with that space?

Allow me to make a suggestion. buy yourself a ping pong table. There are many good ones on the market. There are many made specifically to be used outdoors. They’re fun, they are good exercise, they’re a great way to meet the neighbors.

What To Look For

What are some of the things you want to look for when purchasing an outdoor ping pong table? Well first you want to make sure it’s made to go outdoors.

This means it has to be easy to set up and take down. You need to be able to put it together easily, to set it up easily. easy to take down and easy to put away. In other words, it has got to be easy.

It’s gotta be the right size and it can’t take up too much space when you’re not using it. You can, of course, leave it up but I would not recommend this.

Before you know it there will be midnight ping pong tournaments going on in your backyard and you won’t get any sleep at all. And then you run the risk of getting shut down because of all the gambling that will be going on.

No, better to get one that will come down easily, slide into the garage easily and not take up too much space

What About Extras?

You will need a net, obviously because one of the objects is to get the ball over the net onto your opponent’s side of the table. Most tables come with a net but it’s good to make sure.

Next you’re going to need paddles and there are several kinds of paddles that come in a sets 4. Why 4? Because you can play doubles on a ping pong table the same way you can play doubles on a tennis court. So you need four paddles.

Most sets come with a few ping pong balls. However we recommend buying the ping pong balls separately and buying a decent quality set of ping pong balls.

Outdoor tables are much heartier and built to withstand the elements. The best ones also have good leg control so they can be adjusted to stay level on different types of terrain.

Outdoor tables are also much more stable in windy conditions, so this may be a factor as well if you put your indoor table outside. Of course, if you play in the wind, you will want to award extra style points for effectively using the wind to your advantage. This greatly affects the difficulty factor as well as the aim of the ball.

The Kettler Champ 5.0 ping pong table, designed for play outside, is one of our favorites and one that we recommend highly because it meets all of our requirements. For example, it’s got a set of wheels, it has a sub-structure made of struts that are aluminum. This keeps it light weight and makes it easy to move around. You don’t need a couple of weightlifters to be able to get it out of the garage.

The design is very innovative: it’s easy to fold up. When it’s folded up, that is to say when the two halves of the table are facing each other, the struts have wheels and this makes it very easy to push out of the garage, push down the driveway and even push along the grass for short-distance without the need of a lot of lifting and grunting and straining of your back.

One of the nice features of this ping pong table is the small amount of space it takes up when you put it away after a nice evening of enjoyment and exercise and camaraderie and good neighborly activity. A couple of hinges pivoted and it folds up and you can push it into the garage and lean it against the garage wall. And the total amount of space is less than a foot away from the wall.

This means that even with the ping pong table stored against the garage wall you can still get your car in and out of the garage without worrying about scraping the bumper along one edge of the table. This is an excellent feature and in my opinion should be one of the first things you look for when you are out to buy an outdoor ping pong table

So get on out there and buy yourself a decent ping pong table. We will include a link to a review of some of the best ping pong tables for 2017, both indoor and outdoor. It doesn’t matter whether you’re any good at this game. The object is to get some exercise, to get your kids out of the house, but most importantly to take back your backyard, to find a reason to get out there a couple times a week during the summer. It stays light late into the evening, stays cool late into the evening, and a game of ping-pong doesn’t cost anything once you have the table. Once you have the paddles all you really need is some nice chilled iced drinks. Maybe tea, maybe lemonade, maybe Long Island Iced Tea maybe beer. . . it doesn’t matter really.

This game is a lot of fun. This game is a great way to reconnect with your family and your friends. This game is a way to get some exercise without having to leave the comfort of your own backyard.
